Exploring Volcanoes On The Big Island Of Hawaii - Part II

4/12/2014 - Big Island, Hawaii - The Big Island adventure continued with an early morning beach and lava rock walk to watch the sunrise. We headed back to Kailua Kona for a nice breakfast at The Fish Hopper. Here we had nice views of the Kailua Kona pier and it is also the starting point and finishing line for the Ironman Triathlon. We headed back to the Waikaloa Beach Marriot Resprt & Spa to chill in the infinity pool and hot tub. We then hopped in the car and journeyed across the island to Hawaii Volcanoes National Park. We started at Thomas Jaggar Museum where we took in nice views of the Kilauea volcano. We then drove along Crater Rim Drive for more Kilauea views and we stopped and felt the heat of the volcano steam vents. We then took a small hike to take in the Thurston Lava Tube tunnels. We drove thru the park following a beautiful rainbow across it and drove as far we could until we hit where the lava had flowed across the road and stopped us. We then headed back to Kilauea to enjoy the night glow of the lava coming from the volcano. We finished the day with the long drive back across The Big Island back to the hotel in Waikaloa. 1 3 4 5 6 7Slideshow
