Adventure To Florida's Marco Island Begins - Part I

4/16/2011 - Marco Island, Florida - For the first time in five years our family vacation destination was NOT Hawaii, today was the start of our journey to South Florida specifically Marco Island. We started driving to Buffalo stopping for an early dinner at TGI Fridays then off to Buffalo Niagara Airport to catch a direct Airtran flight from Buffalo to Fort Myers, Florida. The mid-afternoon flight was just under three hours long and we arrived in Fort Myers got our car and headed an hour south down the Gulf coast to are final destination of Marco Island. We found the rental office on Marco and got the keys to our vacation house on Tahiti Road on Marco Island. The house was excellent, 3 bedrooms, 2 baths and our own personal inground heated pool, very nice ! We started our exploration of Marco Island by heading to Tigertail Beach. Here we took in some sun and the kids did some water triking. We then headed to the other end of the island for a nice dinner at the Sunset Grill on South Marco Beach. After dinner we enjoyed a nice sunset and then back to the house for some more swimming, a nice start to the vacation. The next day we journeyed up north to Naples and the many beaches in that area. First stop on the tour was Bonita Beach Park, and excellent and packed beach. We chilled on the beach, swam in the ocean a bit and then rented jet skis and had a blast motoring around the ocean. We then headed south to Vanderbilt Beach, another excellent packed beach, here we hung on the beach and the kids went in the ocean and found shells and sand dollars. We then headed farther south to Naples Pier here we hung on the beach and took in another gorgeous Florida sunset on the beach. Finally a late dinner at Red Lobster and then back to the house. Nice start to our Florida adventure much more to come. 2 3Slideshow
